Accessibility
Changes have been made to the French
version. These will be published shortly.
CARRA wishes to make its Web site accessible to the greatest
number of visitors possible. The structure of the site being simple,
all that was required was to mention a few elements for an easier
browsing experience.
Site Structure
- All the pages of the site corresponding to a section are
listed in their respective directory and their names suggest the
title of their content: their Web address URL) is therefore
logical and easy to understand.
- Menus appear on all the pages of the site.
- The width of the site is variable. It can adapt to any
screen width and resolution.
Quick Bypass Links and Access to Content
At the top of each page, there is a special invisible browsing
link that allows direct access to the content of the page with a
keyboard shortcut Alt [S] to avoid menus. See
keyboard shortcuts below.
All the links are accessible with the tabulation key [Tab].
Browsing and Site Map
- A "breadcrumb trail" type browsing menu, just over the
content area, shows the rank of the page being displayed in the
site structure.
- All pages have a quick return link to the home page from the
administrative signature at the top of each page.
- The blue menu under the banner gives access to the home
page, the site map, the e-mail address for the Direction des
contacts clients, the To contact us section. In addition, it
contains a link to the Québec Portal as well as a link to switch
languages (French-English).
- The search engine is under the blue menu.
- The menu on the left shows the list of the pages most
frequently visited.
- The main menu, the yellow one, gives access to the main
sections of the site.
- The content of each page is displayed in the center in the
same style.
- Each footer contains a link to Accessibility, Service
Statement, Policy on Privacy, the Québec Portal and the
Provisions for the protection of intellectual property
(copyright).
Identifiable Links
Internal links are blue and underlined. When they are touched by
the cursor, they all become bright yellow. Once they have been
visited, they all remain bright yellow and underlined.
The links to an external site are identified with the mention:
"External site: Opening a new window".
Type Size
Internet users can change the type size for an easier reading
experience. To change size to your convenience, simply choose one of
the following methods:
- [Ctrl] key and "+" to increase the size,
[Ctrl] key and "─" to reduce the size,
[Ctrl] key and "0" to go back to the default size,
or
- [Ctrl] and turn the mouse wheel
or
- In the browser tool bar, go to the "Display" menu, then to
the "Text size" option and choose a new size. The text size by
default is medium.
Keyboard Shortcuts
The most frequently used shortcuts are:
- [0] : Accessibility

in order to differentiate them from the usual keyboard entries. They
are activated by a combination of keys that may vary depending on
operating systems and browsers.

Omniweb, Safari before version 1.2, Opera Windows/Linux before
version 7.
Acronyms and Abbreviations
The acronyms and abbreviations used on the site are defined at
the first access on every page.
Voice Readers
Voice readers used by certain Internet users, (for example,
visually impaired users) will pause between links when they are
close to each other, as in menus for example, and some will even
change their tone of voice, as one would do when reading aloud, to
indicate a "difference". Specific information is given to voice
readers so that they spell abbreviations and acronyms instead of
reading them. All this is intended to provide a better understanding
of the content.
Disabled JavaScript
Pages with a dynamic content will not work if your JavaScript is
disabled. However, alternate browsing is possible by using the
site map.
Content, Styles and Images
The text content code (xhtml) and the position code (CSS or style
sheet) are separate. The site remains totally readable even when
users disable the style sheets. Images are commented for voice
readers and non-graphic browsers (lynx...).
Quick Display
The site design contains few images, which allows quick display
of its pages.
